Isaiah 65:20 has always intrigued me: “No longer will there be in it an infant who lives but a few days, or an old man who does not live out his days; for the youth will die at the age of one hundred, and the one who does not reach the age of one hundred shall be thought accursed.”
The longevity of mankind’s lifespan will not be during the millennial period, for then there will be no more death, but the signs are rapidly approaching that this could happen within our lifespans - - or at least those of my grandchildren! Just this past week I heard on the radio man’s projected lifespan has increased once again!
Scientists completed the Human Genome Project 16 years ago, and are still discovering new cures and life-extension scientific and medical tools by “messing with” DNA. And scientists have more recently discovered a whole new layer to the human genome called RNA, which is still largely a mystery.
Just two or three years ago I lost a good friend to Lou Gehrig’s disease (ALS), but now scientists are in the final stages of testing multiple different cures to this horrible disease.
Some scientists now claim there are people alive today who will live to be 1000. “Life extension science” has embraced the idea of slowing down or stopping the aging process with breakthroughs in stem cell therapy, technological advances, rejuvenation of cells and tissue, gene therapy, cloning and organ replacement, and growth. Some of this science is downright scary, and it is very debatable if man may be wrongly tinkering with God’s intentions
But the fact of the matter is, it is happening with a greater magnitude, and fulfilling Isaiah’s prophecy faster than at any other time in history!
Technology is enabling the blind to see, people to receive face transplants, and allowing paraplegics to control artificial limbs with tiny brain implants. Just this increased longevity of mankind alone leads me to believe Christ’s return is close at hand. But there are many, many more signs of the times today!
