The Apostle Paul told the Corinthians “For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh, for the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh, but divinely powerful for the destruction of fortresses” (II Corinthians 10:3-4). Wow! God provides us with weapons of warfare to battle against the “spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places” (Ephesians 6:12). But these are not ordinary weapons. These weapons are divinely powerful! I love that! What do we have to fear when our weapons are divinely powerful? “For if God be for us, who then can be against us” (Romans 8:31)?
All throughout this ordeal, I have believed I am a pawn in a battle in the heavenlies, and I know that victory will come alone from God. When victory is achieved, it’ll be such a victory whereby men and women will shake their heads in wonderment, saying, “Wow, this had to have been God’s intervention.”
Indeed, I have seen God more in so many miraculous ways, it just never ceases to amaze me. For example, yesterday afternoon, for some reason not explained, the wonderful woman who began and operates www.419fund.com, which has been such a blessing, sent me a copy of the 2007 article in the Washington Post Magazine about Lisa Miller's travails. I read the article, which to me was depressing and discouraging, as I see the devil’s handiwork all over it. I debated whether or not to take it to “D,” who is helping me prepare my final statement to Judge Arcara in response to my attorney’s answers to the judge’s specific questions pertaining to my motion for him to vacate my sentence due to ineffective counsel.
But I did take it to “D” and yesterday evening, “D” told me today how valuable it is in proving that my motive in helping Lisa and Isabella was to flee the pattern of abuse – not just the abuse of Isabella, but also of Lisa. I had read this article probably 12-13 years ago, which was written prior to the 2008-2009 incidents of abuse of Isabella widely publicized. But this article documented the alleged abuse Lisa endured from Janet Jenkins even prior to that time, even quoting Janet’s father that she was abusive towards Lisa.
The statute under which I was convicted and Lisa has been indicted clearly states that belief of such a pattern of abuse is a legitimate reason for a parent to remove a child from the country, yet my attorneys for some inexplicable reason never informed me of this “affirmative defense” within the statute, even though I vehemently argued with them that I believed the fact that Isabella was being abused was my best defense.
Yet the statute merely states an affirmative defense as fleeing from a pattern of abuse. And here was documentation miraculously sent as a result of divine power, proof that the abusive relationship existed from nearly the beginning, and even confirmed by Janet’s dad. How amazing is our Father heaven!
