“Thus says the Lord, ‘Let not a wise man boast of his wisdom, and let not the mighty man boast of his might, let not a rich man boast of his riches; but let him who boasts boast of this, that he understands and knows Me, that I am the Lord who exercises loving-kindness, justice, and righteousness on earth; for I delight in these things’ thus say the Lord” (Jeremiah 9:23-24).
What a comfort yet admonition these two verses are my friend Mike sent to me today. That loving-kindness, justice, and righteousness of God are really all that matters. For the wisest man, the most powerful man, and the richest man has nothing to boast of apart from God. Only in Him can we boast! Who can know God’s ways? His ways are not our ways. “For the Lord will not abandon His people, nor will He forsake His inheritance. For judgment will again be righteous; and all the upright in heart will follow it” (Psalm 94:14-15).
Indeed, all that God requires of us is to be faithful and not boast in our own abilities, for all that matters is that we trust Him and give Him the credit – all of it – when His promises come to fruition.
