Through Christ, and the power He gave us in the Holy Spirit, we are granted everything pertaining to life and godliness, according to II Peter 1:3! It is through these precious and magnificent promises that we can become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world by lust (II Peter 1:4).
What does that mean for us? When we apply all diligence, in our faith, we are supplied with moral excellence, and in our moral excellence, knowledge, and in our knowledge, self-control, and in our self-control, perseverance, and in our perseverance, godliness, and in our godliness, brotherly kindness, and in our brotherly kindness, love (II Peter 1:5-7). If these qualities are ours and are increasing, they render our lives useful and fruitful (II Peter 1:8).
What truly amazing promises. But note this comes not from within ourselves, but from the divine power given to us (II Peter 1:4; Acts 1:8; II Timothy 1:7; I Thessalonians 1:5). And therein is the victory – recognizing that we are weak creatures! Yet our Lord knows how to rescue the godly from temptation, and to keep the righteous under punishment for the day of judgment (II Peter 2:9). It is He who rescues us from temptation!
What great comfort and joy I found in II Peter yesterday and today – all three chapters!
