Hebrews 7:25 states, “He is able to save forever those who draw near to God through Him since He always lives to make intercession for them.” How awesome this is! Christ is making intercession for you and me in heaven. But how do you suppose He is praying?
Well, consider the fact that if we do whatsoever He commands, we are His friends (john 15:4). So how does our Savior who is also our friend pray for us? Well, we know He knows our hearts, He knows our needs. He never brushes us away, because He is our friend (Luke 11:5-13).
Jesus also gives us a clue in His prayer which we find in John 17. There, Jesus asks some very specific things of the Father for us, His friends. In verse 13, He asks that we might have His joy made full. Two verses later, because the world hates us and we are not of the world, He prays God to keep us from the evil one (v. 15). Then, He asks twice that we may “be sanctified in truth” (v. 17, 19). In verse 22, He asks that the glory given to Him be given to us. Three times (v. 21, 22, 23) He prays that we would all be one, and perfected in unity. And finally, He prays that the love whereby the Father loved the Son would be known in us! What a comfort and what a lesson for us!
